Life as a Heart Mom – The First Year of Mighty Ivy

Life as a heart mom
She may be little, but she is mighty & well loved.

Some days it feels as if we have lived a thousand different lifetimes. Other days it feels as if we’ve barely moved and lived at all. Our experiences this past year have challenged us and have rocked us to our core. Tumbling us around while simultaneously showing us the power of what faith and a steadfast medical team can do.

What a difference a year can make.

After months of uncertainty, chaos, and endless tears our sweet little Ivy is turning one. Looking at her now, you would never know that she had heart surgery.

Ivy is hitting all of her developmental milestones. She loves to dance, smile and laugh all day long. She is obsessed with her sisters and enjoys keeping us on our toes. Ivy is the epitome of a bundle of joy, and she is thriving. I have no doubt she will be as active as her siblings.

Our day-to-day lives are pretty busy. Instead of doctor appointments and follow ups, I am balancing time with my family and work. I own my own business and I am fortunate enough to have the ability to work from home.

Ivy is the center of our household and as she grows, taking calls and scheduling daytime meetings has become more challenging. However, I am making it work. I schedule my workday around her naps when necessary. I still get to be attentive to Ivy and available for my girls whenever they need me.

We feel incredibly blessed. Looking to the future, it’s hard to contain our excitement for new adventures with our happy, healthy, mighty little Ivy. Adventures and memories that we cannot wait to share.

To our parents, family, and friends who held us in prayer, sent encouraging words, songs, and called to check on us. To those who sent food and clothes while we stayed at the hospital, and who have supported us through our foundation. Thank you.

Thank you for showing up in ways we didn’t realize we needed. Thank you for holding space for our family, for carrying us through one of the most difficult seasons of our lives. We are eternally grateful. To the staff and medical professionals at CHOA, you have been an amazing partner in Ivy’s journey to recovery. Thank you for your life saving patience, care, and compassion.
